Our Featured Faculty

Jennifer Miyahira
Jennifer Miyahira has studied with Hans Jorgen Jensen, Maestro Robert LaMarchina, and Dr. and Mrs. Allen Trubitt. She has a Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree in cello performance from Northwestern University.
Miss Miyahira has performed as a solo and chamber musician throughout the United States including performances at the Chicago Cultural Center, The Meadowmount School of Music, and the Bing Theatre Los Angeles. She was one of ten cellist selected from around the world to participate in the Gregor Piatigorsky International Cello Seminar. There she performed in masterclasses and recitals for world-renowned cellists Ralph Kirshbaum, Boris Pergamenschikov, and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi.
Besides performing, Miss Miyahira has 10 years of teaching experience. She has taught students ranging in levels from very beginners to graduate cello performance majors. She has taught for Northwestern University's School of Music Non-music major program, the Hawaii Youth Symphony, and the Pacific Music Institute.
Other awards and performances include The American Opera Society Swigart String Award, The Union League Civic and Arts Foundation String Award, first place in the Northwestern University Concerto Competition, Northwestern University School of Music Thevieu String Scholarship, The Chicago Musicians Club of Women Farwell Award, Fran Randall Concert Series solo recital, North Shore Music Club String Award, and the First Presbyterian Noontime Concert Series solo recital.
