Starting her flute tuition at the early age of six, Amelia Lukas soon established her musical talent by winning numerous prizes, competitions, and awards, including the New England Young Artist Concerto Competition in 1998. Originally from Boston Massachusetts, Amelia has had extensive solo, chamber, and orchestral performance experience and has performed with such orchestras as the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Sinfonietta.
She received a Bachelor’s degree in flute performance and a licentiate in woodwind teaching from the Royal Academy of Music in London, England and was awarded three prizes during her degree in recognition of musical excellence. Having studied with some of the world's finest flute and piccolo teachers including William Bennett, Trevor Wye and Patricia Morris, she has participated in orchestral tours and festivals throughout Europe and America.

Amelia currently resides in San Francisco and performs to critical acclaim throughout the Bay Area with The Presidio Ensemble, a chamber group consisting of flute and string quartet, whose programming focuses on 20th century and contemporary repertoire. She is a member of Garnada, a band that combines Flamenco, Morrocan, Turkish, and Middle Eastern musical styles and has a large following in the Bay Area.

Amelia is a flute instructor at the New Mozart School of Music, San Francisco Waldorf School, and maintains a private teaching studio in San Francisco. Here is what Amelia says about her personality as a teacher: “I love teaching, and more than anything strive to instill a lasting love and appreciation of music in my students. I focus on establishing good habits and a strong theoretical knowledge of scales and basic musical language. I understand how beneficial musical study can be in a child's development on a holistic level, by improving communication skills, confidence, mind-body awareness, and sensitivity. I am also very aware of how a child relates to their instrument physically and stress the importance of good posture and a relaxed approach in lessons. I have studied Alexander technique and find this very useful when teaching. Most importantly though, I always aim to make music fun! When structuring my lessons, I strive to balance enough routine (so that students feel empowered in their own practice regimen) with spontaneity so that they are never bored and are constantly challenged and exposed to new concepts.”
